January General Meeting – Thursday, 1/16

Jan2020 Meeting

Understand ThinkCentral, and learn how can we use the resources on this platform to help our children improve their math skills and concepts.

There has been a lot of discussion, (as well as misconception) over the District 28 Diversity Plan that has been announced last year. Come find out for yourself what this plan actually entails, and learn the areas of focus the process seeks to address.

There will be a guest presentation on the planning process. Your input as a parent and school community is vital to how the plan eventually shapes up. Please make an effort to attend.

For more information on the D28 Diversity Plan, you can visit this website.

Step right up! The Winterfest Carnival is coming to town! Friday, December 13th

The PA will host its annual Winterfest at the Annex on Friday, December 13th! This year’s theme will be Winter Carnival with games, activities, food, music, and raffle. It will be fun for the whole family!

As always, there will be two parties to accommodate students and their families. Because we have a limited number of tickets available, we want as many PS 99 children to enjoy these festivities. If you have children in multiple grades, please choose one party to attend as a family.

Tickets will be on sale Wednesday, 12/11 and Thursday 12/12 ONLY from 7:45am-8:45am in the Annex lobby. Tickets are first come, first served. (Do not send money in children’s backpacks.)

Due to space limitations we have a one adult per family policy. We ask that you only bring children who attend PS99 for this reason. Thank you for your understanding!

The PA is looking for a few parents who are interested in volunteering for the parties. Some of the duties include:

  • Decorations
  • Food and beverage servers
  • Raffle station
  • Games supervisors
  • Clean up

Parents who volunteer receive a free entry to the party they volunteer at. If you’d like to volunteer, please contact us through the volunteer page, and we will put you on the volunteers list.

Parent Workshop: Friday, November 22nd

Please join Ms. Mooney and Mrs. Maier-Hopkins for a presentation where they will discuss:

  • tips to improve daily life that will help children develop positive attitudes toward school and learning
  • the importance of conversation and talking to and with your child
  • technology use in the home
  • self motivation in children
  • questions/concerns that family members may have

“Every child deserves a champion, an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.” – Rita Pierson

November General Meeting – Thursday, 11/21

Returning by popular demand after last month’s workshop for families of students with special needs: Come meet Kerabanoo D’Rozario of Parent to Parent Of NYS, a statewide not-for-profit organization established to support and connect families of individuals with special needs.
Any additional time following the presentation will be devoted to upcoming committee discussions.
Childcare for school-aged children is available for the meeting. Light refreshments will be served.

COMMUNITY EVENT: Winter Coat Swap & Drive!

The PA will be hosting the annual community Winter Coat Swap & Drive!

You’re invited drop off your gently used coats, sweaters and winter items and participate in a coat swap at the Main Building (Bake Sale area) during Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday, November 14th.

From 1-3pm and 5-7pm, clothing collected from the swap will be available for the taking for all PS 99 students and their families. No need to donate to “shop” for free! Help recycle and distribute clothing and keep everyone warm!

If you’d like to bring it in earlier this week, feel free to drop it off in the Coat Drive boxes that have been set up in the lobbies of both the Main Building and Annex.

The Coat Drive boxes will also be out until December 6th. Any donated clothing will be brought to local shelters for distribution after the 6th.
