Daily News/City Harvest Food Drive

City Harvest and the Daily News have partnered for 34 years to host the largest food drive in New York City. Last year, NYC students collected and donated more than 200,000 pounds of non-perishable foods!

Bring in your canned and boxed goods from Thursday, December 1st through Friday, December 16th. The most needed items are:

  • canned fruit
  • canned vegetables
  • canned proteins (for example, tuna or beans)
  • peanut butter (plastic jars, please)
  • macaroni and cheese (packaged)
  • hot and cold cereal (packaged, family-sized)

Note: City Harvest cannot accept unlabeled or dented cans, open packaging, products that need to be refrigerated homemade foods, or expired products.

School Trips and Upcoming Events

Ms. Folgio sent home the December newsletter in which she reminded parents of the new NYC Office of School Health’s policy regarding school trips.  The Office of School Health is a joint program of the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) and the Department of Education (DOE).

When a student who requires medication attends a trip, a school trip nurse or a parent/guardian must attend to the assist the student, otherwise the trip must be cancelled. School trip nurses are requested but are not guaranteed.  Classroom teachers will reach out to the parents of students who need to be accompanied prior to making payment for the trip.

There are several upcoming events to recognize student achievement and to celebrate the holidays.  Check out our calendar for details!
